Terms of service

Agreement and authority

These terms are an agreement between you and Rolt AI, Inc., a Delaware corporation (“Rolt”, “we”), and govern your use of Rolt. You must be at least 16 years old, and at least 18 to create a workspace or start billing. If you use Rolt for an organization, you must be authorized to make billing and repository decisions for it, and you accept these terms for it; “you” then means that organization.

The service

Rolt helps people inspect and verify code changes. Review findings are evidence-backed proposals for a human to evaluate; Rolt does not approve, merge, certify, or guarantee code. Hosted reviews require an authorized GitHub installation and started billing, and, once the intro offer's free credits no longer pay for a review, a payment method on file, unless Rolt makes the organization complimentary. Every organization has the same features.

Accounts and organizations

Keep your account secure and provide accurate account and billing information. An organization is created when an admin of a GitHub account installs Rolt on it, and that admin agrees to these terms for the organization. Who belongs to an organization, and who is an owner, follows its GitHub account: its admins (or, for a personal account, its holder) are owners, and an owner may make another member an owner. Owners control connected repositories, review policies, the spend limit, and billing, and they alone see invoices and the reviews billed each month; every member can see the month's usage and estimated bill. Signing in does not by itself make anyone an active author.

Credits and review prices

One credit costs $1. A review costs from 1 to 20 credits by its size and its mode (bugs only, balanced, or thorough), as the pricing on Rolt's home page lists. Each review is priced with the mode in force when Rolt accepts it. Every later push, including a force-push, a rebase or a merge of the base branch, is priced by the lines of the pull request's own change that changed since the last review. A review is priced by the whole pull request only when someone asks for a full review, or when GitHub no longer has the last reviewed commit. A push that adds nothing to review since the last review, such as an empty commit, an amend that keeps the code, or a rebase that leaves every file exactly as it was, is not reviewed again and uses no credit; its check on the pull request says so. A review that fails, is cancelled or is replaced by a newer push uses no credit. A review that delivers only part of its result is billed at its full price.

A review's size is the reviewable lines it adds and removes: lockfiles and files Rolt identifies as generated or vendored do not count. A change with more than 20,000 reviewable lines or 100 reviewable files is not reviewed and uses no credit. Rolt identifies generated files by common naming patterns, by a code generator's mark the file already carried, and by the linguist-generated attribute in your default branch's .gitattributes.

Monthly bill and active authors

Rolt bills each calendar month (UTC) once, after it ends. A month is billed either as pay as you go, at $1 for each credit used, or at $30 per active author, each adding 40 credits to a pool the organization shares, with $1 for each credit used past the pool. A month with 6 or more active authors is billed per author; a month with up to 5 is billed the lower of the two. You do not choose between them; Rolt applies the rule every month. Unused credits do not roll over.

A member counts as an active author for a billing month once Rolt reviews a pull request they authored that month. Each active author is billed in full for that month and adds the full included credits to your organization's pool. Seats are not prorated. Outside contributors whose pull requests Rolt reviews count the same way. Pull requests a bot opens are reviewed too. Each counts the first person assigned to it as its author (GitHub Copilot assigns the person who gave it the task), or the bot as one author when no person is assigned. Dependency bots, such as Dependabot and Renovate, count as no author, whoever is assigned to them.

Intro offer

An organization receives the intro offer when an owner starts its billing, with no payment method needed: 50 free credits, used before any others, at each mode's usual price, by reviews started in the 14 days from that moment. Credits not used by then end with the offer and are not refunded or carried over. A review the free credits pay for in full runs without a payment method while the month's active authors are no more than 5 and the subscription is not cancelled; any other review needs one. The offer is given once per GitHub account: an organization is billed without it when the GitHub account of the owner who started its billing already received it. Saving or replacing a payment method, or reinstalling Rolt, does not start another.

Spend limit

An owner can set a monthly spend limit. A review that would take the month's bill past it is not started; its check on the pull request says so. Once an owner raises the limit, re-run its check, push a commit or comment @rolt-ai review to start it. Reviews already running finish. A limit below what the month already costs stops every further review that would add to the bill; reviews that add nothing still run. A cancelled subscription starts no review, whatever it would cost.

Billing, taxes, and payment

Prices are in US dollars. Prices exclude tax. Tax is collected where Rolt is registered. Stripe stores payment details and charges each month's invoice, which Rolt computes from its own usage records, to the payment method on file: a card, or a US bank account debited under the authorization given when it was saved. A bank debit takes a few business days to clear. Rolt does not store card or account numbers or security codes. A month that comes to nothing is not invoiced.

You are responsible for applicable taxes and accurate billing information. Without a payment method on file, a review the free credits do not pay for is not started; once one is added, re-run the review's check, push a commit or comment @rolt-ai review to start it. If a payment fails, Stripe may retry a card; a bank debit that is returned is not retried and its invoice can be paid from the Billing page. New reviews stop three days after a failure and resume once the invoice is paid, and existing data and settings remain.

Refunds

We do not issue refunds automatically. Any refund, credit, or correction is made by Rolt at its discretion.

Your content and permitted use

You keep ownership of your code, pull request content, and other content. You give Rolt only the rights needed to process content you authorize to provide the service, and to diagnose and improve it as our privacy page describes. You must have the right to submit that content and may not use Rolt to break the law, violate another person's rights, probe accounts or repositories you do not control, disrupt the service, or evade billing and spending controls. Do not use review results to evaluate, rank, hire, discipline, or make other employment decisions about individual people. You may not use Rolt if United States sanctions or export laws bar you from receiving it.

Review results

Rolt writes its findings, comments, walkthroughs, and Stories with AI models. They can be wrong or incomplete, and a review can miss problems: a review with no findings does not mean the code is correct, secure, or ready to merge. You decide what to merge, and you remain responsible for testing, reviewing, and securing your code. Rolt is not a substitute for that work or for professional advice. Rolt claims no ownership of the review results it delivers to you.

Free public reviews

Rolt may offer free reviews of public GitHub pull requests on its website, without an account. Ask for them yourself: do not send automated requests or try to get around their limits or the bot check. A free review is Rolt's own analysis of public code, provided as is under “No warranties” and “Limits on liability”. It is not endorsed by or affiliated with the repository's owners, and it is not posted to GitHub. A repository's maintainer can ask our privacy contact to remove its public reviews; we delete them and review it no more. Rolt may limit, pause, or stop free reviews at any time.

Privacy and service providers

Our privacy page explains what data Rolt keeps, for how long, who processes it, and how to have it deleted. GitHub, identity, infrastructure, model, typed-check, review-tracing, error-monitoring, analytics, support, and payment providers may process the minimum data required for their part of the service under their own terms and our provider agreements.

Availability and changes

We may improve or discontinue preview features and will label material limitations honestly. We may end the service with 30 days' notice to organization owners. We may update these terms and our prices. We email organization owners at least 14 days before a material change to these terms or a price increase takes effect. Other changes, and changes required by law or needed to address security or abuse, may take effect when published here. If you keep using Rolt after a change takes effect, the changed terms apply; if you do not agree, stop using Rolt before then. A review is billed at the price in force when Rolt accepts it; a change to the per-author price applies from the first billing month that starts after it takes effect.

No warranties

Rolt is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express, implied, or statutory, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, and accuracy. We do not promise that Rolt will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, that a review will find every problem, or that services Rolt depends on but does not control, such as GitHub and model providers, will be available. Where the law does not allow a warranty to be disclaimed, it is limited to the shortest period the law allows.

Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, neither you nor we are liable to the other for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising from these terms or Rolt, even if told such damages were possible. Our total liability for all claims arising from these terms or Rolt is limited to the fees paid and payable to us by you in the 12 months before the event that gave rise to the claim, but never less than US$100 or more than US$300.

These limits apply whatever the legal theory, including contract, tort, and negligence, and even if a remedy fails of its essential purpose. They do not limit your obligation to pay for reviews, your obligations under the next section, or liability the law does not allow to be limited, such as for fraud.

Your responsibility for claims

You will defend Rolt AI, Inc. and its officers, employees, and agents against any third-party claim arising from the code or other content you submit, your use of Rolt in breach of these terms or the law, or a dispute between you and another person about your use of Rolt, and pay the damages, costs, and reasonable legal fees finally awarded or agreed in a settlement you approve. This does not apply to the extent a claim is caused by our breach of these terms, negligence, or misconduct. We will tell you promptly about the claim, let you control its defense and settlement, and give reasonable help at your expense. You may not settle a claim in a way that admits fault for us or binds us without our written consent.

Ending use and contacting us

You may disconnect repositories, stop reviews, remove your payment method, or request account deletion; a month in which Rolt reviews nothing is not billed, and reviews already run, with that month's active-author fees, remain owed and are invoiced after the month ends. After your use ends, we delete your data as our privacy page describes. We may suspend or end access when needed to protect users, Rolt, or third parties, or for material breach or non-payment. Billing help is available through support; data requests are available through our privacy contact.

Governing law and general terms

The laws of the State of California govern these terms, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising from these terms or Rolt is resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts in Santa Clara County, California, and both parties consent to those courts' jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms removes protections that the law where you live gives you.

If a court holds part of these terms unenforceable, that part is enforced to the fullest extent the law allows and the rest stays in effect. Not enforcing a term is not a waiver of it. Neither party is liable for a delay or failure caused by events beyond its reasonable control, except for paying amounts owed. You may not transfer these terms without our written consent; we may transfer them as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of our business. These terms, the prices on Rolt's home page, our privacy page and cookie notice, and any written agreement you sign with us, which controls where it differs, are the whole agreement between you and us about Rolt.
